Make pretty yarn Christmas trees with Mod Podge! This easy holiday craft is fun, festive, and perfect for decorating or gifting.

Skills Required: None. Even if you’ve never crafted before, you can make these trees. You’ll be dipping yarn in Mod Podge and wrapping.

yarn christmas tree

If you’re looking for a simple yet stunning holiday craft, these Mod Podge yarn Christmas trees are the perfect project! With just a few materials and a little bit of effort, you can create unique trees that add a handmade touch to your seasonal decor.

I personally love the texture that these add to my mantel.

You can also use these as a charming centerpiece for your holiday table, arrange them on your mantel for a winter wonderland effect, or even string tiny fairy lights around them for a cozy glow.

I tried LED candles inside of them and they look kind of amazing (don’t use real tealights – LED only please).

This project is a great way to use up yarn scraps you may already have in your craft stash. Whether you go for classic holiday hues or mix in modern, unexpected colors, the results are always beautiful.

diy yarn christmas trees

The Mod Podge hardens the yarn into a sturdy yet lightweight structure, so your trees will last for years to come.

How are you going to apply the yarn? There’s really no rhyme or reason to it, you just want to make sure that it’s all overlapped and there aren’t many blank spots. These yarn trees so simple, a child could make them.

So grab some yarn, Mod Podge, and foam cones, and get ready to create some holiday magic! These DIY trees are proof that simple materials can lead to stunning results—perfect for decking the halls with handmade charm.

Gather These Supplies

  • Styrofoam cone(s) – 3 of different sizes. You can reuse them after this project!
  • Plastic wrap
  • Mod Podge – I used almost an entire 16 oz. bottle
  • Sponge paint brush
  • Yarn
  • Pin
  • Scissors

this project can get messy!

You’ll want to make sure to do this project in an area where some Mod Podge can drip on the surface . . . also your hands are going to get coated in medium. It’s a little bit messy – but the results are totally worth it.

Equipment

Ingredients

  • 3 Styrofoam cone(s)
  • 1 roll Plastic wrap
  • 1 bottle Mod Podge Matte 16 oz
  • 1 skein yarn green

Instructions

  • Use plastic wrap to cover the cones. You’ll need several pieces. Just wrap as tightly as you can – you only need one layer (but it’s fine if the plastic wrap overlaps).
Styrofoam cones with plastic wrap on them
  • Place ½ cup to 1 cup of Mod Podge into the middle of your plastic tray. Cut a length of yarn to work with (several feet long).
Mod Podge in the middle of a black plastic tray
  • Take the length of yarn and roll in around in the Mod Podge in the tray. You can squeeze off the excess. It needs to be coated in the Mod Podge, but doesn’t need to be dripping. You just want it saturated.
coating the yarn with Mod Podge in the tray
  • Beginning at any point on the cone (I recommend starting in the middle), wrap the yarn around the cone, right on top of the plastic wrap. Continue wrapping the yarn around the cone until the entire piece is secure.
foam cone with plastic wrap and the first layer of yarn wrapped around it
  • Repeat the same thing you just did, this time with the second cone.
  • Wrap the third cone with a length of yarn. Then you’re going to go back and repeat on the three cones, wrapping an additional length of yarn on each. Let dry.
You don’t want to do too many lengths of yarn on the cone at once before allowing some dry time. The yarn will get too heavy and start to slide down the cone. I recommend doing two lengths at a time and then letting dry before layering.
Three foam cones wrapped in yarn drying on a table
  • Continue dipping and wrapping yarn on all three cones until they are completely covered, to your desired thickness. I used approximately three-fourths of a 380-yard skein of yarn (medium weight). Let dry completely, preferably overnight.
Additional pieces of green yarn wrapped on a cone
  • Starting with the smallest cone (it’s the easiest), start twisting the yarn tree off the cone. Hold the base with one hand and the tree separately and twist. If you need, you can compress the tree slightly and pull. It will bounce back. Repeat with the remaining trees, then remove all the plastic wrap to display.
Removing the plastic wrap from the inside of the tree

Notes

Step 2: It’s easy to hide the beginning or end of the yarn when you start new pieces. Therefore if you’re new to this project, start with shorter pieces first.

Make snowman hot chocolate jars for a festive holiday gift! This project is fun, easy, and perfect for friends, family, or party favors.

Skills Required: None. Even if you’ve never crafted before, you’ll be able to make these. You’re primary cutting felt and using a hot glue gun.

snowman hot chocolate jars

Have you seen these stacked hot cocoa snowmen out-and-about during your internet travels? You’ve got to admit – they are so cute. I recently saw this video and thought, “I need to make my own version immediately!”

Who wouldn’t love snowman hot chocolate jars, especially when filled with some delicious cocoa, marshmallows, and mints? I imagine these would be a favorite with teachers, neighbors, dog walkers, secret Santa recipients . . . or anyone, really!

With some basic mason jar craft supplies from Michaels, I made these silly snowmen with ease. I can’t wait to hand them out and see the smiles they are sure to inspire. Here’s how I made these Christmas mason jars!

Gather These Supplies

Here’s the great thing about using hot glue on the jar lids – it’s removable later. When the jars are popped apart, you can peel the glue off the lids and reuse the jars.

Fill them with hot cocoa, marshmallows, mints, or anything else you like. You just need 12 oz. of goodies per snowman!

Ingredients

  • Quilted mason jars 4 oz., 3 for each snowman
  • Acrylic paint black and orange
  • 2 pieces Felt turquoise; 1 long piece enough to fit around the jar. black; 1 piece
  • Round item slightly larger than your mason jar lid

Instructions

  • Wash and dry mason jars with mild soap and water. Let dry.
    Quilted 4 oz mason jars
  • Use orange acrylic paint and your liner brush to add noses to two of the jars. Let dry. Use black acrylic paint and the end of a paintbrush to make dots for the eyes. Let dry. On two other jars, paint three buttons in the same way. Let dry.
Paint a snowman face on a mason jar
  • For the scarf, cut a strip of aqua felt about 1" wide. It’s easiest to use your ruler, craft knife, and mat for this. Fringe the ends with scissors.
Cutting turquoise felt with a ruler and craft knife
  • Grab the black felt. Cut a long piece the same you did for the scarf. Unscrew the mason jar ring and make sure that it fits around correctly with a slight bit of overlap. Trim to fit.
Cutting the black felt into strips with a craft knife and ruler
  • Make the brim of the hat by tracing an item that is slightly larger than the mason jar lid (use the Silver Sharpie to trace). Place the mason jar ring inside the circle and trace the inside of the ring onto the felt.
Tracing a circular item onto black felt with a Silver Sharpie
  • Make three cuts. Cut the outside of the brim, into the middle of the circle, and then cut out the inner circle. I found that cutting the felt this way made for the tightest fit.
cut marks on the black felt
  • Before you glue any of your items together, fill the jars with the appropriate goodies. This will make it easier for you later – you won't have to unscrew the jars again.
    Filling the jars with marshmallows
  • Glue the jars together bottom to top, using the hot glue gun. Place about 4- 5 big drops of hot glue down on the mason jar lid and set the other jar on top.
Placing hot glue on a mason jar
  • Secure the brim around the lid using a few dots of hot glue. Make sure the seam is in the back. The good news about felt is that it has some stretch. If you find it doesn't quite fit . . . stretch it gently.
Securing the felt brim around a mason jar lid
  • Glue the top portion of the hat with hot glue – wrapping around to the back of the jar.
Adding hot glue around the edge of the top mason jar
  • To finish your cocoa jars, place the scarf around jars and secure with dabs of hot glue. Let cool before gifting.

Notes

There will be no painting on one of the jars – the bottom jar.
Black felt: you’re going to need enough for two separate pieces for each snowman. You want a round piece that will be the brim of the hat, and then you need a long piece that will fit all the way around and be the main portion of the top hat.

Learn how to make easy peace wood decor using dollar store supplies, napkins, and Mod Podge! This is a fun DIY for a seasonal display.

Skills Required: Intermediate. To make this winter decor, it helps to have experience with paint and Mod Podge. You’ll be applying both, ironing the napkin down, then adding additional glitter paint.

DIY peace wood sign

Christmas is a magical time of year when everything sparkles a little brighter, and our homes become cozy havens of festive cheer. Today, I’m excited to share with you a delightful little project that’s as fun as it is simple.

It involves transforming a wood word from Dollar Tree – “Peace” – into a dazzling piece of Christmas or winter decor.

I didn’t have any specific plans when I was strolling the aisles of my local store and found this word. But what I loved about it is that the “A” is a tree . . . and I knew it had to come home with me.

When I got home, I browsed my stash and figured out what I wanted to do. I decided to take this wooden word and turn it into a stunning piece that screams (or rather, whispers) “winter wonderland.”

The process is as easy as it is fun. We’ll start by decorating the front with napkins. Yes, you heard that right – napkins! They’re not just for cleaning up spills anymore.

With a bit of Mod Podge magic, I’ll show you how to iron on napkins and turn the wooden word into a piece of art.

Then we’ll add a final flourish with some metallic and Gitterific paint. It’s like fairy dust for your crafts, adding that essential sparkle that every holiday decoration needs.

The result? A “Peace” plaque that’s not only a joy to create but also a beautiful addition to your holiday decor.

Easy Peace Wood Decor for a Seasonal Display

This project is a reminder that the joy of the season lies in the simple things – a little creativity, a touch of glitter, and the good feels of doing something yourself.

Scroll down for the full tutorial, and let’s spread some peace – and glitter – this holiday season. Remember, it’s not just about the destination but enjoying the creative process as well. Let’s get crafting!

Gather These Supplies

  • Wood word – I used PEACE from Dollar Tree
  • Holiday or winter napkin – also from Dollar Tree
  • Mod Podge (any formula)
  • Craft paint – white, metallic blue, metallic silver blue
  • FolkArt Glitterific – Hologram
  • Painter’s tape
  • Craft knife and mat
  • Emery board
  • Paintbrushes
  • Spouncer
  • Parchment paper
  • Mini iron
  • Clear spray sealer (optional)

If you’re going to put a napkin on a dark MDF word like the one in this project, you’ll need to use white paint (or something light) on it first. Otherwise you’ll see the dark background of the word through the napkin.

I didn’t seal the napkin on top with Mod Podge. You can, but it might wrinkle. If it does, you can re-iron it (use the parchment paper again). Another option is to use a clear acrylic sealer on top (spray). Apply after the napkin sets and then let dry.

I used Glitterific paint, but you could also use Mod Podge Extreme Glitter. One isn’t better than the other, the Glitterific particles are just larger!

If you use glitter paint, I highly recommend using a spouncer. A brush just moves the glitter particles around while a small foam spouncer makes it easier to “place” the paint.

Instructions

  • Paint the wood word using white craft paint. Roll on one side, let dry, and flip over. Paint other side and let dry. Use a small brush to get inside the letters. Let dry completely.
Painting an MDF word with white paint
  • Apply a medium coat of Mod Podge to the top of the word. Let dry and repeat. Wipe away any Mod Podge that dripped over the edges. Let the two coats dry completely.
Putting two coats of Mod Podge on top of the wood word peace
  • Use painter's tape to tape off part of the design, if desired. I taped anywhere that I didn't want the napkin to adhere. You can use a craft knife to trim the painter's tape.
Painter's tape on the tree portion of the word
  • While the Mod Podge is drying, separate the napkin from the bottom layers. You can use tape to help. You just want the top layer with the design.
    Separating a winter napkin
  • Place the napkin down onto the word. Place a piece of parchment paper on top of the napkin, and run the craft iron across the top several times. While you are doing this, the Mod Podge is melting below the napkin, and the napkin is adhering. Keep going until the napkin is fully adhered, including the edges.
Ironing the winter napkin on top of the word peace
  • Let the word cool after ironing. Use an emery board to gently sand away the excess napkin. Sanding at an angle works very well. Continue until all the extra napkin is removed. I used a craft knife to remove the napkin around the painter's tape area.
Sanding off the winter napkin edges with an energy board
  • Remove the painter's tape and paint the tree area using the metallic paint. I used two blues; one for the base of the tree, and one for the star. Let dry.
Painting the tree portion of the word peace
  • Apply Glitterific to the tree area with a spouncer. Let dry completely before displaying.
Applying glitterific paint on top of the paint

Christmas Tree Centerpiece with Vintage Style

Hey! It’s David from Cheltenham Road – I hope everyone is having a great holiday season.

My Etsy shop goes a bit berserk around the holiday, which is awesome and very satisfying. BUT it leaves very little time for other holiday themed projects.

Front and back of a DIY Christmas centerpiece

I’ve been imagining these dimensional Christmas trees for weeks and finally found a little time to try out the idea. You could use them on a table, but they would also look great on a Christmas mantel. They’re actually quite versatile as holiday decor goes.

To make this easy wood Christmas craft I used:

  • Craft sticks from Home Depot measuring 1/2″ thick by 2″ wide ($1.77 for 36″ in the lumber department)
  • Scans of vintage Christmas wrapping paper (you can also use actual wrapping paper, scrapbook paper, or tissue paper)
  • Mod Podge Matte
  • White paint
  • Saw
  • Glue
  • Sandpaper
  • Scissors
  • Hand saw or chop saw
  • Protective eyewear
  • Paintbrush
  • Pencil
  • Ruler

Have a great Holiday everyone! Thank you so much for all your comments on my projects and trips over to my blog and Etsy shop. I wish you all the very best for the new year!

  • Mod Podge your Christmas paper into place on both sides of the slats. Let dry completely.
  • Trim away any excess paper. Give the trees a second and third coat of Mod Podge, letting dry between coats.
  • Paint the edges of the slats white and let dry. If desired, sand a bit of the edges down.
  • Stack the pieces together on top of each other and attach with hot glue. You’ll twist each piece slightly as you glue it down.

  • Hot glue each tree to a small scrap wood piece from the scraps as a base for stability.
  • Place in a large tray and add Christmas embellishments like faux snow, small ornaments, and small packages.
Easy wood Christmas centerpiece with a vintage theme

Notes

  • I used scans of vintage paper but you could use anything – wrapping paper,    Christmas napkins, scrapbook paper, etc.
  • I did find they needed a little base to keep them super stable – I just glued the bottom to some scrap wood and covered it with snow.
  • You can cut the slats with a regular hand saw as pictured, but a chop saw makes faster work of it. Just be careful with the smaller “tops” of the trees – you’ll want to go back to the handsaw for those for safety sake.
  • If you’re not into sawing and power tools, you could do the same thing with popsicle sticks or balsa wood and a sharp craft knife.
  • I decided (after I was done, of course) that I liked the paper that used designs or patterns a bit more than the ones that had Santa faces. There is something a bit “un-Christmas-y” about cutting St. Nick’s face in half!

Are you looking for fun and easy decoupage ornaments to make for Christmas? These are so fun and sparkly – any age can try them!

Skills Required: None: Grab a bottle of Mod Podge and some scissors. This is one of the most simple projects you’ll ever do.

Easy Decoupage Christmas Ornaments with Fabric!

I know that right now many of you have little ones at home – they are out of school, it’s cold outside and they are bored. They might need some fun kids Christmas crafts! Kids love making Christmas ornaments!

Good news – Mod Podge is here to help. Since many of you are also setting up trees this weekend, you can set your kids at a table with these fabric scrap Christmas ornaments and let them go to town.

You know – adults actually love making these too. They are perfect for leftover fabric scraps if you’re a seamstress, and you can make some pretty pleasing color combinations with your scraps. Once you are done, slap them on the tree (okay, not so much slapping as placing).

These Mod Podge ornaments are so easy and inexpensive, you probably have everything you need already, and your kids are going to have a great time.

Here are the goods to make the kids Christmas ornaments. A couple of paper balls and some fabric. Oh, styrofoam works too, but I liked these because the hanger was attached. I have little patience when it comes to hanger-ing.

Paper mache christmas ornaments and a pile of Christmas fabric

(learn how to make a Christmas wreath for kids here!)

Gather These Supplies

  • Mod Podge – your choice of flavors. I used Glitter Gold, Glitter Silver, and Gloss. Glitter Mod Podge is no longer available so I recommend either Sparkle or Extreme Glitter
  • Paper mache ornaments – as many as you want to make
  • Fabric scraps – I didn’t have any holiday ones specifically so I bought 1/8 yard pieces from JoAnn. They were only around $.30 a piece with the sales right now
  • Embellishments – whatever you have lying around; I used ribbon and buttons
  • Flat paintbrush – one for everyone!
  • Craft Glue
  • Scissors

I had a great time decoupaging these! I fully believe adults should join in on kids Christmas crafts. Do you?

When it comes to Christmas, one thing stands out for me: glitter rules the season. There’s just something magical about adding a little sparkle to your holiday decor.

I’ll be honest—I don’t break out the glitter much throughout the year, but when the holidays roll around? It’s game on. The motto here is simple: “Go glitter or go home!” And trust me, with this project, I’m firmly in the “glitter all the things” camp.

This DIY rustic glitter ornament is the perfect blend of cozy and glam. It’s a craft that lets you embrace the natural beauty of twine while adding just the right amount of shimmer to your tree.

And the best part? You have options.

You can keep your ornament simple and rustic, letting the twine wrap take center stage, or go full-on holiday fabulous by sprinkling glitter on top. No matter your style, this ornament is sure to stand out among your Christmas decor.

Another thing I love about this project is how easy it is to make. You don’t need to be a crafting pro to pull it off—just a little Mod Podge, some twine, and a clear glass ball ornament.

It’s also a great way to add a personal touch to your tree or even create handmade gifts for friends and family. Who wouldn’t love a little sparkle in their stocking?

Whether you’re team minimalist or all about the bling, this project has something for everyone. So grab your supplies, pour yourself some cocoa, and let’s get crafting. Christmas is the perfect excuse to unleash your inner glitter fanatic!

If you are wondering how to get children in on the Mod Podge holiday action, I have the perfect Christmas kids’ craft for you – learn how to make a Christmas wreath the EASIEST way possible. It’s really so simple and so sparkly (which kids love)!

It uses a beloved formula that doesn’t get quite enough attention around here: Sparkle Mod Podge.

The little ones may need some assistance with the cutting and gluing, but the Mod Podging is for every level (it’s kid safe!). You aren’t going to believe how easy this is.

(check out our kids decoupage ornaments for another fun idea)

Gather These Supplies

  • Sparkle Mod Podge
  • Gloss Mod Podge (optional)
  • Foam wreath form – circle
  • Fabrics of your choice – you can use any kind: Christmas, old scraps, etc.
  • Felt in shades of green
  • Buttons – red
  • Scissors
  • Paintbrush
  • Glue
  • Ribbon to hang

Here’s a little tip. I use Gloss Mod Podge to glue things down and put Sparkle on the top. You don’t have to do this; the Sparkle formula glues things down too – but I like to preserve my Sparkle MP!

  • Continue adding Mod Podge to fabric strips and then wrapping them. Once the strips have covered the wreath form, let dry.
  • Paint a finishing coat of Sparkle Mod Podge over the top and let dry.

  • Cut holly leaves out of felt using scissors. Cut a ribbon to hang.
  • Use the hot glue gun to add the leaves and buttons to form the holly. Use the hot glue to also add the ribbon to the back of the wreath. Let cool completely before hanging.

How to make Christmas lights with ping pong balls

Are you ready to embrace the holiday spirit and add some sparkle to your Christmas decor? Over here, we’re already pulling out the glitter and getting crafty, and I couldn’t wait to try a project that’s been on my list for ages: snowball Christmas lights.

There’s something so magical about the idea of twinkling snowballs brightening up your holiday space.

This DIY is not only fun but incredibly simple, making it perfect for even the busiest season of the year. Using everyday ping pong balls, some Mod Podge magic, and a sprinkle of iridescent glitter, you can create light covers that look just like glittery snowballs!

They’re the perfect touch to add whimsy and warmth to your mantel, tree, or even a festive garland. Plus, it’s a budget-friendly way to customize your Christmas lights and make your home shine brighter than ever. Let’s get started on this dazzling holiday craft!

Ping pong balls, Christmas lights, Mod Podge, glitter, and a craft knife

Gather These Supplies

  • Mod Podge Matte or Gloss
  • White ping pong balls – 24
  • Christmas lights – one strand of white, 24 bulbs

  • 1 strand white Christmas lights 24 bulbs
  • Glitter white, large flake

Instructions

  • Start by taking the X-Acto knife and making a small hole in each ping pong ball. Smaller is better, as the ball will need to fit snugly over the lights later.
Hand holding a ping pong ball with a hole cut in the center
  • Give each ball a generous coating of Mod Podge.

Notes

Be very careful while cutting the ping pong balls! Wear a leather glove to hold the ball if necessary.
For sprinkling glitter: use large plastic tweezers like you see in the image (you can find them in a craft section). Another thing I do is put “my balls” on a wooden skewer to paint, then I stick that into a block of floral foam to dry. It’s so handy.

Create DIY wrapping paper that wows! This easy tutorial shows you how to make unique, impactful gift wrap for any occasion. It’s budget friendly, too.

How to make your own wrapping paper

Happy holidays everyone!!

Last year I started working on my coastal Christmas decor with some coastal ornaments for my tree. This year I have added my coastal glittery Christmas trees. I still have a couple more things to do to complete my look this year.

This year, I got a Southern Living Holiday Magazine. While flipping through the pages I spotted this beautiful nautical inspired Christmas wrapping paper. I fell in LOVE!

Southern Living Christmas gift wrap

BUT it was getting close to Christmas and I didn’t want to order it. I wouldn’t have had the time to receive and wrap presents as well.

So I decided to save this homemade gift wrap idea. This past year, I bought some great nautical stamps that I’ve been saving to make something. You can use any kind of stamps you want and customize this DIY wrapping paper to your style.

The biggest question I get about this project is, “what should I use as the base?” I love using the packing paper from the Dollar Tree that comes on a roll. Last year I wrapped all my gifts in it.

You’ll hear this brown paper referred to as “kraft paper” and “butcher paper” as well. You can purchase it from a variety of places, like The UPS Store, WalMart, Target, Michaels . . . or even online.

Homemade wrapping paper for Christmas

In addition, kraft paper comes in white if you aren’t digging the brown. You can also use packing paper that comes in the sheets – however, that’s more like newsprint.

The stamps won’t be as vibrant on the newsprint. My personal favorite is the brown kraft paper, but you do have options!

When you head to the craft store, select several different ribbons for your packages. But what are you going to Mod Podge, you ask? Well, the embellishments for the wrapping! You’ll choose wood shapes (going along with the theme of your wrapping).

In addition, you’ll want to grab glitter, which you’ll adhere to the shapes with the Mod Podge. Use a thicker, chunky glitter if you don’t want to paint the wood shapes, so the coverage is better.

DIY Cake Pop Stand for the Christmas Holidays

Hi, it’s David from Cheltenham Road.

Each year I throw a big Christmas Dessert Party. It’s one of my favorite things to do for the holidays. Tons of great friends and, of course, a chance for me to eat share a lot of my favorite desserts!

This year is no exception, and I’m really looking forward to it. I’ve been building my list of recipes and ideas over on Pinterest and trying to get things done as far in advance as possible so I can relax and enjoy the season.

I always try to make each dessert just a nibble, and cake pops are always a big hit.

In years past I just stuck them in some styrofoam, covered it with fake snow for a festive look, and called it a day. This got a bit messy as the evening wore on.

Mod Podge Hard Coat, painted wood plaque, Christmas graphic, sandpaper, foam brush, drill

This year I thought I’d kick it up a notch and create a DIY cake pop holder just for the cake pops (or anything else I might “stick on a stick”! Last year I made s’mores on sticks. I highly recommend s’mores on sticks!).

Anyway. I gathered my supplies for this wood Christmas craft. Here’s what you’ll need.

Gather These Supplies

Instructions

  • Paint the plaque with white acrylic paint and let dry. Distress the edges with sandpaper.
  • Print out a graphic to fit your plaque on a laserjet printer. Cut paper to fit the top of the plaque.
  • Mod Podge the graphic into place on the top of the plaque and let dry 15 – 20 minutes. Then brush over the top using Mod Podge, and let dry.
Sanding the edges of a DIY Christmas cake pop stand with sandpaper
  • Make a simple grid sized to fit the number of cake pops you have.
Making a grid on a piece of paper with a pencil and a steel ruler
  • Tape over the top of the plaque using painter's tape. Drill directly into the paper and plaque at the marks.
Drilling into a cake pop stand with a template
  • Seal the entire plaque with Hard Coat Mod Podge and let dry.

Notes

I only paid $1.50 for the wood plaque from the dollar bins up front at Michaels – everything else I had on hand. Costs will vary.
To keep the depth of each hole the same, I used a scrap of painters tape on the drill bit so I’d know when to stop drilling each time.
